News from the Web 2.0 Expo: new public channels and avatar contest

Dixero @ web 2.0 expo nyc

Great news from our last trip to US. We met some of you, chat a little, did some presentation and even if exhibiting at the Web 2.0 is a bit tiring, each time we hear about you talking about your Dixero and your experience rewards us to the effort we do all the day long. (want to see us at the Expo? Check our latest pics :) )

As at Javits Center were taking place 3 expos at the same time, we met visitors came from a different expo and interested in a lot of different contents. For this reason, we had the chance to talk a lot with non-heavy users and we deeped into the needs of non skilled users, talking about what is a RSS feed or what is a podcast. This situation has been very useful, because we understood what to show and explain on our website and what are the frequently questions a user have in mind when reading Dixero’s website.

We presented a new selection of public channels we added to the service (Business and Politics, Lifestyle, News, Sport, the New York Times) in addition to the two public channel you already know (Entertainment, Internet and technology). We also anticipated our first contest, but I probably need a separated blog post to write a little about it ;)

After New York, we flow to San Francisco and worked a little in our office in Sunnyvale waiting for the Plug&Play Tech Center Expo. We had a space to talk about Dixero and we heard about other experiences. We met amazing people, asked for feedbacks and exchanged views with professionals and businessmen.

Waiting for the next news, we wave at you with an interview blogtalkradio did to Luca

Dixero at TechCrunch Euro Tour

By francesca at 15:07 in Events tags with tags ,

Yesterday we went to the Zürich’s date of  TechCrunch Euro tour, one of the events organized by TechCrunch UK. 40 swiss startups (si sono passate il testimone) on the stage to present what is their product in… 20 seconds. Never have had so a little time to present Dixero! We are very satisfied both about talks and interesting people we met.

As we discussed yesterday about future plans, we are now refilling ourselves with new energies. Right now is time to planning and reorganization of the company, investing almost all our resources in quality improvements.

Back from Reboot!

Last week Dafne and I went to Reboot 10, a wonderful conference in Copenhagen (DK). 500 people from all over the world met to discuss about the theme of “free”, ranging from social media to biology to hardware. It was wonderful meeting and hearing from people like David Weinberger, Chris Messina, Dan Gillmor, Stowe Boyd. We was impressed by talks about user experience and guerrilla usability and had a chance to chat around about Dixero. We also had the chance to get some feedbacks and new ideas about the features, let’s see…

Now we are planning some others trips in the summer time, getting around to see new faces and discover new possibilities. Stay tuned and come to say hello to us!

Back from Supernova 2008

By francesca at 17:30 in Events tags with tags , , ,

Supernova 2008 has been a great place to be in the past days. It was characterized by the focus on people and interaction between speakers and attendees. More than 400 people from 15 countries were in San Francisco to discuss about the 4 bases of innovation: technology, business, society and policies.

What impressed me most was:

  • Bob Iannucci (Nokia) showing phones with sensors able to create an ambiental intelligence to provide benefits for the users
  • Jordan Hoffner (Youtube) focusing on contents that enable social connections
  • Jonathan Schwartz (Sun) talking how new IT open models are a business driver really simple but effective
  • Joe Kraus (Google) explaining trends that are changing the net: individual to social research of contents, active to passive act of sharing, open social.

Some other discussion that impressed me were about social network and how we can now observe patterns and behaviours but every time someone try to bring the whole social networks known back to rules, the net evolves and theories are no longer valid… So, we actually can’t predict behaviours accurately.

A personal good story that happened the second day I was there: the day started with a coffee poured on my trousers and a pen that, after some minutes, broke in my pocket :(

I also have to say thank you to Nokia, because I won in a sort of lottery a Nokia N95, and many thanks to Deborah from Los Angeles too, she seemed to be very impressed about Dixero ;)

We’re back!

Hi all! We’re back!
We’re a bit late in telling you what happened in the last month. So, let’s go.

As you know, part of our staff went in San Francisco for the Web 2.0 Expo. 3 weeks of work, 4 days of exhibition with more of 10.000 visitors, 300 exhibitors, almost all mixed cultures in the same place, meetings, parties, workshops, conferences… (why don’t have a look at our photostream? :)
It was an enormous case of ideas and brains learning and thinking fast at what will be the next. Seems that doesn’t matter to have a great idea, the point is having one and believe in it, fight for its survival.
What happened with Dixero? Well, people from different countries were curious about a different and specific part of it. Chinese people were more interested in linguistic and technical aspects, Indians asked a lot about programming language, Americans and Europeans were focused on business issues and playing possibilities. In any case, we are pleasantly surprised (and happy!) to feel positive vibes around Dixero.

The web 2.0 expo has been a great possibility for us to meet people and ideas, we did demonstration of the functions and let people play with voices and avatars. Were you there too? If so, please leave a comment to let us know what was your feeling and if not, we hope to have the chance to meet you at the next event :)

In these days we received a lot of feedbacks from you and we are working hard and redesign parts of the service based on your suggestions. So, keep contact us and help us improve Dixero, to let it be the service designed on you :)

Torino barcamp 2008, finally there’s a camp for big kids!

By lucamascaro at 08:25 in Events tags with tags , ,

In recent years it has become apparent that one of the best ways to share in-depth information, ideas, and visions is through the use of open forums like those seen in conferences. Barcamp is an example of an internationally organized grouping of user-led conferences. During the Barcamp conference you can participate in open discussions, chalk-talks, and workshop events.

Unlike other conferences, Barcamp is orchestrated by the users of the various web applications and data formats that you yourself use on a daily basis. At Barcamp you will be able to discuss topics such as open data formats, early-stage web applications, social protocols, etc.

This Saturday, February 23rd 2008, we’ll be at Barcamp’s Torino conference! That’s right, we’ll be in Torino to present all of the possibilities Dixero can offer. We’d love to see you there on Saturday so we can not only tell you more about Dixero, but also so that we can hear what you have to say about what Dixero could be in the future.

So come join in on the fun and exploration that will be circulating at Barcamp in Torino this Saturday.

See you in Torino!
